Our Vicars since 1897

 

From the 1890s through the 1980s, St. Barnabas' was led by deaf ordained Episcopal priests.  Since then, our vicars have been hearing but deaf leadership of St. Barnabas continues through the leadership of the Mission Committee.  At St. Barnabas' we continue to work with the ECD to ensure the future of deaf persons in ordained Episcopal ministry as well as deaf lay ministry.

The names and dates are from our parish register.  The photos are from "A Missionary Chronicle" by the late Rev. Otto B. Berg, one of our wonderful priests listed below.

Our deaf priests:

The Rev. Oliver J. Whildin served 1897 -- 1914 and 1920 -- 1921

The Rev. Herbert C. Merrill served 1915 -- 1919

The Rev. Henry J. Pulver served 1921 -- 1927

The Rev. Hobart L. Tracy served 1927 -- 1936

The Rev. Otto B. Berg served 1943 -- 1948 and 1951 -- 1978

The Rev. Guilbert C. Braddock served 1948 -- 1951

The Rev. Dcn. Fielding G. Rogers served 1979 -- 1980

The Rev. Jay L. Croft served 1980-1996

The Rev. Barbara A. Allen is our current Vicar since 2002

In addition, since 2005 we have had a deaf retired priest serve as consultant for deaf ministry and substitute from time to time, the Rev. Dr. Roger Pickering
